ADMIRAL HYMAN G. RICKOVER
Father of the Nuclear Navy
REKOVA takes its name from ADM Rickover as the standard we believe maritime defense tech startups should strive to meet. Rickover built the U.S. Navy's nuclear submarine program from nothing, overcoming deep institutional resistance to prove a technology most considered too risky to pursue.
The U.S. and its allies face a widening gap in military capability relative to China. Closing that gap depends on the kind of technical ambition and willingness to build the unproven that Rickover represented.
REKOVA exists to support the startups that are taking up that challenge.
FOUNDER
Mingi Hyun
Founder & Managing Director
Mingi is the founder of REKOVA, a research and advisory firm delivering specialized intelligence to VC investors and founders in maritime defense tech. He operates at the intersection of naval analysis and commercial strategy.
His defense career spans leading consultancies and think tanks, specializing in international navies, their procurement programs, and force structure planning. Alongside REKOVA, he currently serves as a Research Fellow in East Asian Naval Affairs at the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS), which operates in Japan under the authority of Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka.
Complementing his defense track record, Mingi brings multinational corporate experience from Samsung’s global headquarters in South Korea, where he led business development and alliance management initiatives. His work has spanned key markets across the Americas, Europe, and East Asia.
Mingi holds MA History of Warfare and BA (Hons) War Studies degrees from King's College London. A U.S. citizen based in northern New Jersey, he spends his weekends coaching youth lacrosse in his local community.
